LAMBDA SIGMA MEETING MINUTES

January 7, 2001

Excused:  Elizabeth Florek, Jen Tokarski

Absent:  Kwame Buah, Kelly Jones, Erin Karner, Brian Payne

Welcome back Courtney and Carrie!!

Goodbye to Amy Farrar who is in London this term and is leaving Lambda Sigma.

We voted ‘no’ on having snacks at the meetings.  It was too much of a cost for the Lambda Sigma fund or for us to buy.

We talked about moving the meeting to a different date or time because Jen and Elizabeth will be unable to attend Monday meetings due to opera rehearsal.  It was voted that the meeting time should not change because it would cause more conflict for other members.

Poonam spoke about working at Downer on Wednesday, January 23.  However, we would only be able to take the available positions, meaning that we may not be very visible to the students.  Sarah brought up the idea that we could clean tables at Lucinda’s during a lunch time, because help is always needed.  Sarah will find out more info for us before the next meeting.

We had planned to play with the kids at a pediatrics ward on Saturday, January 19 in the morning.  So far we have not found an inpatient pediatrics ward to go to, so some people will find out more info about the local hospitals.

Fundraising

Linda found out that we actually have $750 in our LS account, not the expected $1200.  This means that we need to do some major fundraising!!

Some discussed ideas for fundraising include:

-          Selling Krispy Kreme donuts

-          Handing out breadsticks at Fazoli’s

-          Having lots of pizza sales

-          Selling candy grams or flowers for Valentine’s Day

Service

This coming Saturday night, Bubolz is having a night ski with luminaries.  They need people to put the luminaries out and to watch the trails.  Amy will find out if Bubolz is still having the event because of the little snow on the ground and will send out an email.

Spring Break trip

KT brought up two ideas for a spring break trip.  Both of the places that she found will provide lodging for us.  Most of the jobs that would need to be done are cleaning the parks and trail maintenance.  The two options are:

-          State park in Jackson, Missouri

-          State park in southwestern Virginia

We will vote on the spring break trip at the next meeting.

                                    Respectively,
