Lambda Sigma Meeting Minutes for October 22, 2001
Excused: Kwame Buah, Laura Corcoran, Elizabeth Florek, Kelly Jones, Sarah Mortenson, KT Raschko, Jen Tokarski
Unexcused: Amy Briggs
We still need people to usher at the convo this Thursday. If you can usher, let Wenjie know.
Ellie Boucher has been removed as a member from Lambda Sigma. This is because she took a leave of absence this term, and will be off campus second and third term.
A consideration for next year is if we should accept people who will be off-campus for a term during their sophomore year.
We should be receiving RSVPs by Thursday, so at that time we will know how many people to expect.
Games:
- Pin the nose on the pumpkin
- Human knot
- Bobbing for donuts
- Suitcase of Halloween clothes
- Costume contest
- Approx. 15-20 minutes for each game
648 cookies have been ordered for us. The total cost of the cookies will be $44.64. Downer will also give us the frosting. We also need sprinkles, so whoever can bring some would be appreciated.
Erin Karner told us about the pancake dinner that will raise funds towards relief efforts for the September 11 events. The dinner will be on Saturday, November 17, 5:30 – 8:00 pm at Lucinda’s. The cost will be $5 for LU students in advance, $6 at the door, and $7 for other people. They need help cooking for the dinner, which will begin at 4:30. If you would like to help cook, please contact Erin Karner.
Wenjie and Linda spoke about their adventures in Texas. Here are some things Wenjie talked about:
- We need a banner for our chapter. It’s a national requirement.
- Other chapters usually have elections before initiation. That just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to us.
- The National fee increased from $100 to $125 per chapter.
- There is a Lambda Sigma scholarship that we should keep in mind. An applicant must have a 3.5 gpa and show outstanding efforts in the four pillars. The deadline is in April for the scholarship. Two people in a row have won the scholarship from our chapter, so we better make it three!
- We can receive Honors Chapters. To be applicable for this, our chapter must have: an article sent in by the reporting secretary; the president attend national conference; the treasurer, president, and advisor send in reports; and submitted the required national fees. We’re not too far from accomplishing this!!
- We are a strong chapter!! We started the school year here later than some other schools, and yet we are up and running!!
- We are so lucky to have a great advisor! Thank you Linda!!
- Wenjie received packets full of ideas for icebreakers, service projects, and fundraising projects.
- Send letters out to parents asking them if they would like to order a pizza for their LU student. We could probably charge them about the normal cost of a pizza, but then get a deal from the pizza place (profits!). The only concern about this idea is that ORC already sells survival baskets.
- Compete with chapters from other schools in a food collection.
- Having a casino on campus. A concern about this idea is that SOUP already does this for Mardi Gras.
- Having a raffle.
- Selling krispy kremes.
- Hosting an auction in which we auction off faculty members or ourselves.
- Restart lamb of the week. We pass the lamb on to a different person each week.
- Hold parties in which the entrance fee is bringing a can of food. Then we can donate the food at the end.
- The people at the convention were very into rituals. We thought that it’s possible to still have rituals and a low-key initiation.
- Ideas for food instead of buying plates are having hors d’oeurves or desserts.
- Reminder of being sensitive when rejecting people.
The next meeting of the Alpha Pi chapter of Lambda Sigma will be held on October 29 at 8:00 pm in Sage lounge. See you there and have a great week!!
I apologize for arriving late to the meeting. I had a required committee meeting that was supposed to finish by 8:00, but obviously it didn’t. Thank you Chris C. for taking minutes and attendance for me!! I really appreciate it.
Sincerely,
Krissa Matthews
