Greenfire minutes from Thursday 9 October
Howdy again. This time I’m not late!
*People talked to Lynn Hagee (food services woman) who is already
planning special meals. She has truly planned on two events during the
year; the harvest dinner in the fall and earth day in the spring. Only
one issue of organic or homegrown farms can be comprehensively addressed
at each of the dinners.
As of right now, the harvest dinner is planned for Wednesday 22 Oct and
we need people to help. If you want to, contact either Steve or Amy.
(amy.b.seeboth@lawrence.edu or stephenrogness@hotmail.com)
*We will re-start the clean plate club, this time with a slogan
underneath to prevent overeating, ‘take less, waste less.’ We may also
address napkin waste. Still to be decided on. If Lynn says it is ok,
clean plate week will be the first week of November. If not that, the third.
*Amy and Steve talked to Nancy Trusdell who is trying to get Bolt
Construction to give a presentation on the environmentalism of the new
dorm and it may become a case study. She will also see about what Kurt’s
position as RHD of Heitt could be in terms of environmental
responsibility. He may be the compilator/historian of green-ness at
Lawrence. He may also do web designs??
*But BAO said that he would do that. Get in touch with Ben
(benjamin.p.pauli@lawrence.edu)
to do so.
*Other than that, we went over some little somethings green. Examples
are…(this is just a list of ideas and issues to be addressed and elaborated)
paper towels
turning off the shower when shaving/lathering
use own mug at coffeehouse
fewer napkins!
Double sided copying and printing
Plastic bag recycling
Our Next meeting will be on Thursday again, 8:30pm in Ormsby lounge. Be
there or be square!
With love,
Meera
