Heyo Greenfire,

The Scoop:

Kerry’s coming tomorrow; but anyone whose everyone already know this.  Show up @ 5:30 PM at Alex Gym; head starts talkin’ about 7:30 or 8 PM.

Bjorklunden trip this Saturday leaving Wriston turnabout at 9 AM.  If you still want to come, email or call Noah {noah.j.planavsky@lawrence.edu} immediately. We be back ~5 PM on Sunday.

Tuesday 10/19 – A Sierra club member is giving a talk on the environmental differences between Kerry and Bush in the coffeehouse at 7:30 PM, so go and be informed, citizens.

Tuesday 10/19 – Nationwide Climate Campaign Day – This is a day initiated by Yale during which we will be having petition signin’s and info-hand-outin’.  Expect Noah to supplement my informational shortcomings here.

Saturday 10/23 – All Campus Environment (ACE) Day.  From 8:30 to 12 we are building an eagle flight and doing “environmental stuff” at a wetland reserve.  From 1 to 4 we are cleaning up the Fox River and doing a lit. drop for pamphlets Jesse and JP made.  We could use more volunteers, and especially we need drivers (who I think have to be over 21).  Also, for next week there are tabling spots to be filled… M: Lunch and Din, W:L, & F:L.  All this is Brian’s domain {hilgemab@lawrence.edu}.

Initiatives:

Composting – A few people looked up info on composting grants, notably Liz.  Hundreds o’ g’s are dispensed by the EPA, so Noah, Beth, and Liz are gonna rob em blind.  UW- Steven’s Point has grants, Alex Weck is covering this.  There are so many more grants out there, so if you’ve got like 10 minutes, look up some grant info online and bring it next week!  Rough projected costs range from 6-8 thousand bucks, but that ain’t but a stack o cash where I come from.  Also, we will educate the ignorant masses on composting, and may be able to incorporate composting into a J.C. tutorial.

Heating – Allyn did a bomb-bastic job covering this stuff.  Only Coleman works on the trigger-room-type-system where one room controls the whole floor’s temperature.  Allyn got names and #’s, and will contact the people and inform them of their inscrutable power.  Heat in other dorms is controlled from one spot in that dorm (set @ 69.1 – 70.9 depending on the janitor’s mood [ring]).  Small houses control their heat by room.

Battery Recycling/Maintenance – I (Matt) will maintain the battery bins on campus.  Where to recycle the spent chemical nuisances is a whole other issue, as we most likely have to pay a lot of money to ship them to a far off place.  If anyone gets juiced up to the extreme on recycling batteries, please lookup some info on what places will recycle standard AA batteries – because less places will actually do it than you’d think.  If you write back to me with “batterie’s plus” mentioned anywhere, then expect fiery death to the seventh degree.

Dorm Maintenance & Inspection – We have assigned people to cover all the dorms on campus and address issues like recycling bins, LSG signs, etc., and report them to the group.  These people can also address the issues by getting bins or adding signs etc.  Ideally it’d be nice to have 2 people per dorm, and preferably guy/girl so ya’ll could check the bathrooms, so if anyone wants x-tra responsibility, email me.  Inspection checklists will be emailed out shortly.  Sage – Brian H. & Meera.  Trever – Maria C. Coleman – Meghan M.  Kohler – Alex F.   Ormsby – Bethany.  Plantz – Laura S.

Pay to offset your environmental impact day – Were talking about a day where you can pay to offset your environmental impact w/ speakers and pudding.  Were applying fo’ dollas for this event, so…yup.  Ideas/questions/comments on this should be brought up at the next meeting.

Sorry for my constant, expatiating boring-ness
...but you know you love it,
