Greenfire screens "Green Fire" on campus

May 09, 2011: This Sunday, May 15, Greenfire will host a screening of Green Fire, a new documentary about Aldo Leopold -- the conservationist who sparked the modern environmental movement and wrote the phrase from which the student organization Greenfire and this film derive their names. Stanley Temple, Beers-Bascom Professor Emeritus in Conservation at UW-Madison and senior fellow and science advisor at the Aldo Leopold Foundation, will give an introduction to the film and answer questions. Chris Paine to speak at Lawrence

April 10, 2011: Earth Week culminates on Tuesday April 26th, when Chris Paine, director of Who Killed the Electric Car? and the upcoming Revenge of the Electric Car will speak in the Lawrence Memorial Chapel. The talk begins at 8:00pm with a question-and-answer session to follow. This event is free and open to the public. See this page for details.

Earth Week 2011

April 9, 2011: Greenfire is hosting its 21st annual Earth Day Celebration on Saturday April 23. In addition, from April 17 to 26, events will take place every day including guest speakers, music, and volunteering. On the 23rd, Greenfire will host an all-day event on Main Hall Green (rain-site: campus center, 2nd floor) with informational booths, live music, food, arts, crafts, and more. Greenfire and the VCSC host "FLOW" screening

February 24, 2011: On Tuesday, March 1, Greenfire and the Volunteer & Community Service Center will host a screening of Irena Salina's award-winning documentary investigation into the most important political and environmental issue of the 21st century - the world water crisis. The New York Times calls FLOW "an astonishingly wide-ranging film. An informed and heartfelt examination of the tug of war between public health and private interests." Free and open to the public. Waste Reduction Month begins

February 1, 2011: Greenfire's "Waste Reduction Month" begins today. Events include Recyclemania, Greenfire's annual Clean Plate Challenge, 5-minute talks at the clock by Main Hall, month-long coffee discounts at the cafe when you bring a reusable mug, and more. See this page for details.

January 20, 2011: Tonight's meeting is at 9:00pm in the Greenfire House instead of 8:30. Please feel free to stop by! We'll be discussing plans for "Waste Reduction Month" and other Greenfire events.

January 3, 2011: Welcome back to campus, Lawrentians! The first Greenfire meeting of the term is this Thursday at 8:30pm in the Greenfire House. We hope to see everyone there! (bring your friends!)

Thrift Store opens!

November 10, 2010: Greenfire and SEGA are opening a thrift store November 11 through 13 from 11am to 3pm each day. The store will be located on the main floor (3rd floor) of the Campus Center. All proceeds will benefit entrepreneurs in developing countries through micro-lending. Please tell your friends and come support the thrift store! Click here to go to the store's Facebook page.

Collaborative Thrift Store with SEGA

October 31, 2010: Greenfire and Students Engaged in Global Aid (SEGA) are teaming up this fall to create a thrift store here at Lawrence. Please donate clothing, books, shoes, and other items by dropping them off in the boxes located in each dorm and in the Campus Center. In a few weeks, we'll have a sale of the items and the proceeds will go to micro-lending aid efforts managed by SEGA. Please email us at greenfire@lawrence.edu if you have any questions. Ralph Nader at Lawrence University

April 13, 2010: Earth Week culminates on Sunday April 25th, when consumer advocate Ralph Nader will speak in The Lawrence Memorial Chapel. The talk, which is sponsored by Greenfire and the Class of 1965 Grant, begins at 7:30pm. Book signing and a question & answer session will follow in The Chapel. Earth Day 2010

April 2, 2010: Green Roots and Greenfire are teaming up for a week long celebration of Earth Day at Lawrence. From April 19th to 25th, events will take place every day including guest speakers, music, and presentations. On Saturday, April 24th, Greenfire will host an all-day event on Main Hall Green (rainsite: Warch Campus Center) with informational booths, live music, food, arts, crafts, and more. Clean Plate Challenge!

January 25, 2010: With the help of Bon Appetit, Greenfire is running its annual Clean Plate Challenge this week in the new Warch Campus Center. From Monday the 25th through Sunday the 31st, Greenfire will be weighing all food wasted in the cafeteria. The main goal of the Clean Plate Challenge is to raise awareness about food waste and to encourage all Lawrentians to waste less.

Winter Term 2010

January 7, 2010: Greenfire meetings are on Thursdays at 9pm this term. We meet in the Greenfire House (Sabin House -- next to Draheim on Alton street and across from "old Downer"). Come join us! Everyone is welcome! :)

End of the Term & Bag Painting

June 4, 2009: Greenfire meetings have wrapped up for the 2008-2009 academic year, but there's still one more chance to hang out with your fellow Greenies. This Saturday, June 6th, we're having a free paint-your-own bag event at 1:00pm in the Greenfire house. We hope to see you there & wish you good luck on finals!

Finals & Spring Break

March 14, 2009: Here at Greenfire we'd like to wish all Lawrentians good luck on finals. We hope everyone has a relaxing spring break! Feel free to stop by Greenfire House for our next meeting at 8:30pm on April 2nd, the first Thursday of Spring Term. We're also having an Earth Day planning session this Wednesday, March 18, at 5:30.
