A Lengthy Break

Posted: 10/16/2008 2:11 pm by Ted Greeley

Fall at LU is always a special time for students. For new students, Lawrence offers an exciting new chapter in their life. For returning students, it is a chance to get back and say, "Hi!" to old friends and make new ones. Oh, and of course get back to work.

For the men of Delta Nu, we are returning to our studies, to our friends and to the responsibilities that come with being a fraternity brother. This term we are hosting a slew of events including: member and faculty dinners, a volleyball tournament for charity, and getting involved with several campus presentations.

We at Delta Nu took a bit of a break over the summer, but our web site took a much longer one. For over five years, Delta Nu has taken a break from the web, but we are back.

I hope that our alumni and fellow brothers will keep tabs on us through our web site.

So until next time!

Moving Forward

Chris Phelps and his cohorts are graduated and long gone. In fact, when I was updating the roster I found that the freshman on the roster were seniors when I was a freshman, three years ago. So, I would like to introduce you to the current Delta Nu chapter. Over the upcoming weeks I hope to get this web site capable of giving you pictures and possibly videos of the current chapter.

Minor Update

Posted: 02/11/03 at 2:50PM by Christopher Phelps

I'd love to say that I've got a lot to show you right now unfortunately, this is not the case. For member profiles I'm trying to figure out a way to use something efficient like PHP to create member profiles rather than make 50+ HTML documents by hand. I've got plenty of time on my hand, but not *that* much. And of course, the Lawrence University network doesn't support any sort of database utilities for it's webpages because that would be convenient and intelligent. So instead I'll be looking for alternative ways of getting up information.

Since the stars were slightly out of alignment last night, or it might have been the meager 50% attendance at monday's meeting, position elections are put off for another week. Nevertheless, I'll be putting in a budget request this week so that over the next few weekends we can fill up the webpage with some snapshots of the house.

The big deal this week and the next of course is the Bowl-A-Thon, all members are required to participate and will be helping out the less fortunate children in the Appleton community. We look forward to seeing all of you brothers there.

Content Galore! (Well, sort of)

This update brings with it the remainder of the basic pages although some are a little bare at this point. As soon as I get in touch with the philanthropy chair I'll be sure to add all of our upcoming events for the rest of this term. I've also included links to the national fraternity's webpage, the divisional webpage, and the Lawrence homepage. As far as the roster goes, I'm looking into creating individual profiles as well as a generic listing. Expect to see something like that in the next week or so. The site at this time isn't really designed to be too interactive, we're just trying to get the basics online.

Alumni out there, we'd love to hear from you! Feel free to e-mail our president, Andrew Fieber, or myself and let us know what you're up to, what you think of this site, or if you're just curious to see what the house is up to. Our goal is to have a working and maintainable database so that we can communicate with you. Keep a watch on the alumni section here and stay tuned as we try and get some e-mails sent out.

Delta Nu now Online!

Posted: 02/04/03 at 3:27PM by Christopher Phelps

Welcome to the new website for our fraternity. While there really wasn't anything wrong with our old one, it was going on the better part of a decade out of date so we're going to be turning over the proverbial leaf and working hard to get all of the content we feel is necessary for a great site.

I have decided to take up the task of creating and maintaining this site with a few specific goals in mind. First, to create a website that is manageable by someone with limited web-design experience so that after this year the site can still be maintained and used as a valuable resource for the chapter. Second, to foster better communication between the  members of our fraternity and the outside community, namely our own alumni. Finally, and perhaps this is more personal than the other two goals, I want to create a forum in which my chapter can not only announce to the world what we're about and what we're doing, but let our voices be heard unperturbed.

Right now we've got the news page, a basic roster, and this weeks minutes from the house meeting. At this stage I'm really optimistic about the possibilities. Expect the updates to come quickly and often here in the first few weeks of production. And with the help of several in-house, self-appointed critics, I believe I will be made aware of all the mistakes on the site.
