Lawrence University Crew
For Parents, Alumni, and Friends
Friends of Crew
Friends of Crew is a new program in 2009 for supporters, alumni, and parents of rowers. With this program, we hope to be able to have an organized group of individuals to support the team at regattas by cheering, providing post-race food, and helping the team out in general. In addition, Friends of Crew will receive a semi-regular newsletter with updates about the team, information about events, and more. To join the Friends of Crew list, contact Richard Wanerman .
Support
Although we receive funding from the Lawrence University Community Council and charge yearly dues, your financial support plays a significant role in our continued existence. Through donations from parents and crew supporters through the recent years, in addition to funding from LUCC, we have been able to raise money to allow us to purchase new equipment. Previous purchases include:
- Drakkar - Men's Openweight 4+ (Winter 2006)
- Women's Varsity Oars (Spring 2005)
- Ric & Margot Warch - Women's 8+ (Spring 2004)
- Espeseth McNiff- Women's lightweight 4+ (Fall 2006)
Thanks to help from LUCC and a generous donation by the parents of Brandon Cernohous '11, we have been able to purchase the 2009 Vespoli Matrix 31 2x/-. This boat is a valuable addition to our fleet and we look forward to the years of rowing and racing it will provide.
We are currently working towards the purchase of a new, larger trailer. Our team has rapidly grown in size over the past few years. As such, we need to bring every boat in our fleet to our regattas. Our current trailer, after nearly 20 years of service, is now too small for the size of our team. A new trailer will allow us to transport our entire fleet allowing more rowers to compete. Additionally, a new trailer will be easier to load, safer to tow, and rust proof, giving us another 20 years or more of service. We are trying to raise the $20,000 dollars needed to purchase this trailer.
Rent-A-Rower
Members of the community can hire rowers for a variety of tasks (yardwork, moving, snow removal, etc.) for $10/hr. Each rower is responsible for $220 in annual dues in addition to clothing and Spring Break costs. The money earned goes towards paying off these expenses. If you would like to inquire about the Rent-A-Rower Program, please contact our Finance Chair, Rachel Payne.
