Lawrence University Crew

For Parents/Alumni/Friends

Friends of Crew

Friends of Crew is a new program in 2009 for supporters, alumni, and parents of rowers. With this program, we hope to be able to have an organized group of individuals to support the team at regattas by cheering, providing post-race food, and helping the team out in general. In addition, Friends of Crew will receive a semi-regular newsletter with updates about the team, information about events, and more. To join the Friends of Crew list, contact Richard Wanerman .

Support

Although we receive funding from the Lawrence University Community Council and charge yearly dues, your financial support plays a significant role in our continued existence. Through donations from parents and crew supporters through the recent years, in addition to funding from LUCC, we have been able to raise money to allow us to purchase new equipment. Previous purchases include:

We are currently renting and actively working towards paying off the 2009 Vespoli Matrix 2x/-

We are also working towards the purchase of a new trailer, tools, and spare parts. See below for our current wishlist regarding equipment and needs. If you have questions regarding our needs for specific equipment, please direct them to our Boatman, Jake Cihla.

In addition to supporting and maintaining our fleet, your donations also help us with our expenses as we travel throughout the Midwest to regattas, to South Carolina for our Spring Training, and to Philadelphia for the Dad Vail Regatta, our equivalent of nationals. This year, we have had an incredible number of students express interest in joining crew; we had over 50 people sign up at the Activities Fair and had 35 novices show up at the first practice. Assuming we keep 25 novices, this brings our current team to almost 50 rowers and coxswains. Unfortunately, unless we take a bus, which in past years has been prohibitively expensive, we are only able to take 25 people to any given regatta. Your financial support will allow our entire team to compete in the regattas we'll be attending.

If you would like to donate for a specific item, just help the team in general, or simply have any questions, please contact our Finance Chair, Rachel Payne.

Rent-A-Rower

Members of the community can hire rowers for a variety of tasks (yardwork, moving, snow removal, etc.) for $10/hr. Each rower is responsible for $220 in annual dues in addition to clothing and Spring Break costs. The money earned goes towards paying off these expenses. If you would like to inquire about the Rent-A-Rower Program, please contact our Finance Chair, Rachel Payne.
