Content tutoring refers to assistance with the specific subject matter in a course. Content tutors work one-on-one and in small groups to help students understand the course material by explaining and demonstrating concepts, reviewing topics, providing guidance through practice exercises, answering questions, and clarifying ideas.
The Center for Teaching and Learning hires faculty-approved tutors to work with students in a variety of disciplines. Assistance is available with most 100-level courses and with many advanced-level courses. Each term, these courses are assigned designated tutors to whom students needing assistance are referred. If a content tutor is requested for a course for which no tutor has yet been hired, the CTL will work with the faculty member teaching the course to attempt to locate an appropriate tutor whenever possible.
