They Have the Grove - Now What? Adding Design, Song, Dance, and Improvisation to World Drumming Ensemble

Putting the groove together is just the beginning! Using the music of Ghana, West Africa, as a launching point, participants will experience hands-on techniques and ideas for adding artistic depth and breadth to drum ensemble pieces. This interactive session will include concrete set of ideas for immediate classroom use as well as materials for inspiration drawn from professional world music ensembles to guide their own imaginative design.

Miriam Altman, presenter, teaches middle school music at the University School of Milwaukee. She recently completed her third residency at the Dagbe Institute in Ghana.
