Leila Ramagopal Pertl '87 - Harp

smiling teacher with head next to strings and frame of the harpLeila Ramagopal Pertl, is a music educator who is passionate about nurturing musicianship in all individuals. She received a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Lawrence University and a master’s degree in Music Education from the University of Illinois. She has studied with Elizabeth Borsodi, Alice Keene, Paula Page and the late Alice Chalifoux. She founded an innovative music program at Next Generation School in Champaign, Illinois where every student has music class every day, and where harp playing is integrated into the curriculum. In addition to school teaching, she is an active performer on concert and Celtic harp, and she has maintained a successful harp studio for 15 years. Her students perform regularly on public radio, music festivals and in concerts. She teaches harp to beginning through advanced students of all ages and has a strong belief that ensemble playing is a vital part of a harpist’s development.
