A news reader or feed aggregator is a software program that allows you to manage news feeds from many sources, automatically retrieving new content as it becomes available. Two kinds of news readers are widely used: those that are installed on a laptop or desktop, and those that are hosted on the Web. Most Lawrence-owned computers are now pre-configured with either NetNewsWire Lite for Macintosh or FeedReader for Windows – two popular news readers. To install one of these on your personally owned computer, follow the links below.

Web-based Aggregators
The chief advantages of Web-based readers are that they allow you to keep up to date on your feeds from anywhere, and they save you from having to synchronize feeds between machines if you typically use several computers. As with any Web-based application, however, it is well to be aware of possible compromises of the security and privacy of your information.
