How Do We Know the World Is Round?
 |
In Professor Hunsicker's class we learned
how people found out that the world was a sphere instead of a different
shape. |
| During this session we used an orange, a bagel, a cucumber,
a cardboard disk, pins and a flashlight to get a better understanding
of the shape of the world. The evidence was the horizon since 600
B.C. people have known that the world has been round. So we took two
pins one was a ship and the other was a person. As a object goes farther
from a person, it gets smaller. So how did they know that boats left
and didn't just fall off the earth? Good question: they found out
because the boats returned. |

How long have people known the Earth was round?
What evidence did they have?
