Fur, Fat, or Feathers: What Works Best in the Artic?

Girls drawing their answers.

Two girls work hard together while still having fun!

Hard at work making line graphs.

Getting our observations.

Fur, Fat or feathers was awesome! We found out that fur AND feathers have the same warmth. First, we took a yogurt cup filled it with HOT water, then we took either feathers fat or fur and filled a white cup with it. Then we placed the cup in a big black bowl and filled it with ice. Afterwards, the students put the hot water in the white cup and the white cup in the black bowl. Beth DeStasio told us to stick a thermometer in both of the cups. Students had to take the temperature every 30 seconds for 10 min. Then we had to take our data and put it into the computer to make a line graph. After that, students had to write their results on the board. We went through our anwsers and came up with ways we could have made the experiment better. The students LOVED the Class!!!!!!!!!!

Ask Me Questions:
What makes a better insulator against cold: fur, fat, or feathers?
What does it mean to have a "control" in an experiment?
