10,000 Lincoln Cheese Logs: Something Different from Minnesota, Illinois, and Wisconsin features four artists from each of these states who use humor to comment upon contemporary art and culture.

Buildings Celebrated - Celebrated Buildings is an exhibition organized by the Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum at the University of Minnesota. Using selections from their permanent collection, this exhibition examines artistic responses to and interpretations of buildings, thereby delineating the symbolic role architecture plays in our society.

6 January - 25 January 1998
Kate Hunt: Sculpture. Minneapolis sculptor and Lawrence University's Visiting Assistant Professor of Art Kate Hunt creates her work within a postmodern, post-feminist context. In her reductive, yet sensuous sculpture, Hunt juxtaposes such materials as steel, rope, wood, and wallpaper to explore issues of power, democracy, and domesticity.

31 January - 15 March 1998
Indian Humor documents through visual expression the contexts of humor among Native Americans of different tribes. Countering the popular notion that Indians are stoic and serious, this exhibition reveals the diversity that exists among Native American artists.

4 April - 17 May, 1998
Marketplace of Ideas: Culture Jamming in the Visual Arts explores methods of subversion through appropriation, parody, and humor. The exhibition will present work by artists who are reclaiming their mental environment and examining identity issues relating to race, class, gender, and sexual orientation, in the context of media overload and consumer culture.

Senior Art Exhibition showcases work by studio art majors in the Class of '98.
