Patrice Michaels (shown at right receiving a two-handed greeting from Cuban President Fidel Castro) is an associate professor of music in the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music. A member of the Lawrence faculty since 1994, she received a bachelor's degree in music and theatre from Pomona College and did postgraduate studies in composition and performance at the Banff Centre in Canada. Her Master of Fine Arts degree is from the University of Minnesota­Minneapolis. A soprano, Professor Michaels has appeared with the Phoenix Symphony, the Chicago String Ensemble, and Music of the Baroque, as well as giving recitals in Tokyo, Los Angeles, and Wisconsin. This season she is performing in Carmina Burana with the Virginia Symphony, in Mahler 4 in Kansas City and with Chicago's Music of the Baroque in Dido and Aeneas. She also presents recitals throughout the upper Midwest, featuring the songs of Lili Boulanger.
