Jill Beck will be formally installed as the 15th president of Lawrence University
on Saturday, May 7, 2005.
Organized around the theme “A Celebration of
the Arts and Liberal Learning,” the inaugural weekend will include a
variety of events culminating in an all-campus celebration on the Main Hall
Green early Saturday afternoon.
Among the public events planned for Friday, May 6, are faculty and student
presentations on the connections at Lawrence between the performing and fine
arts and the various disciplines of the traditional liberal arts and sciences,
as well as the involvement of students and faculty in out-of-class learning
and community engagement. A campus open house will feature demonstrations of
interdisciplinary projects across many fields of study, several art shows,
and other displays of creative activity. An inauguration concert will be performed
in the Memorial Chapel on Friday evening.
See the Lawrence website, www.lawrence.edu/dept/president/inauguration/, for
further announcements and the summer issue of Lawrence Today for a full account
of the campus celebration.
