Jim Vosper, '48

Island Boyhood: A Memoir. Stone Beach Books, 2001.

The island in question is Bois Blanc Island in Lake Huron, where Vosper's family had a log cabin to which they moved full-time after his father's real estate business in Detroit failed in 1929.

The Appleton Scene notes: "Everyone in the family chipped in to keep the house running smoothly, chopping wood, canning vegetables, and collecting ice for the summer. . . . It was a turn-of-the-century existence. They were alone and cold."

Island Boyhood is a book of reminiscences, stories of family and friends, and tales of eccentric island characters, cars, and boats.
