Howe, professor of art at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, collaborated on the first English translation in over 50 years of Vitruvius: Ten Books on Architecture, written by a Roman architect at the time of the Emperor Augustus and regarded, Howe says, as "the central work of architectural theory in the Western World." He wrote a commentary, did 143 pages of illustrations, and assisted with the translation from the Latin.
