Lawrence-designed Political Web Site Reaches Milestone
MyElectionDecision.org recently passed the 10,000 mark for visitors who have taken its interactive surveys.  Launched last October, the site was created by a team of Lawrence faculty and staff, in partnership with researchers from the University of California-Irvine.  It allows users to take a blind test without knowing which candidate said what, evaluate which issue statements they support, and then, with computer assistance weighing the preferences, find out which candidate most closely supports their own views.  Since its inception, the site has attracted visitors from 48 countries worldwide.

Shimon and Lindemann Featured in Milwaukee Exhibition
The work of Lawrence Assistant Professors of Art John Shimon and Julie Lindemann is featured in the current Milwaukee Art Museum exhibition “Unmasked & Anonymous: Shimon and Lindemann Consider Portraiture.”  It juxtaposes 43 of Shimon and Lindemann's portrait photographs and a multimedia installation with 54 portraits from the museum’s collection of photographs to present new perspectives on one of the oldest artistic genres — portraiture. Lawrence Scholarship Funds Get $1.125 Million Boost
The Raymond C. Krueger Industrialist Scholarship has been established by a $1.125 million gift from the trust of two former long-time Appleton residents, Amond “Ralph” and Marjorie Ballinger. The scholarship, which will be awarded beginning in 2009, honors Marjorie’s father, a 1914 graduate of Lawrence. Read more.

Performing Arts Series Celebrating 100th Anniversary
First staged in 1908, the Artist Series of the “Performing Arts at Lawrence” opens its second century of musical virtuosity this fall with a line-up that includes LU’s own Grammy winner Dale Duesing in a homecoming concert and a farewell stop by the renowned Guarneri String Quartet. The Jazz Series half of the program features vocalist Jackie Allen performing with the LU Chamber Orchestra and trumpet player Ingrid Jensen kicking off Jazz Celebration Weekend.  Season subscriptions are on sale now.  Read more.

Privatt Named to Barber Chair in Theatre and Drama
Kathy Privatt, associate professor of theatre arts at Lawrence University, has been named the James G. and Ethel M. Barber Professor of Theatre and Drama.  Appointments to endowed professorships recognize academic distinction through teaching excellence and/or scholarly achievement.  Read more.

Six Alumni Cited for Achievement, Service             
Lawrence recognized six alumni — John Holdridge ’77, Farnham Jarrard ’58, Jo Noonan ’78, Robert Spoo ’79 Judy Sutherland ’58 and Steve Tie Shue ’04 — for their career achievements, contributions to society or volunteer service to the college during the college's recent Reunion Weekend celebration.
