Stephen Edward Scarff Memorial Visiting Professor of Religious Studies at Lawrence in 1995-1996, Presbyterian minister Rev. William Sloane Coffin, Jr., rose to prominence during the '60s and '70s as a leader in the civil rights and anti-Vietnam War movements.
