D. Michael Lynn, '65, accepted appointment as United States Bankruptcy Judge in September of 2001. Prior to taking the bench, he practiced corporate reorganization and bankruptcy law in Dallas, Texas, for 29 years after receiving his J.D. degree from Columbia Law School in 1972. Judge Lynn also serves as a professor of law on the faculty of Southern Methodist University's Dedman School of Law.

He is an elected member of the American Law institute and is active in the John C. Ford America Inn of Court, of which he was one of the founding Masters. In 2003, he was honored by the John C. Ford Inn of Court for his development and implementation of several national award-winning programs sponsored by the Inn. He has also been recognized for his work on behalf of the homeless and by the State Bar of Texas for his participation on the faculty of numerous continuing legal education programs.

Judge Lynn has written extensively in his field of law, including co-authoring three books and contributing more than 30 chapters to the leading treatise on bankruptcy law.
