Information for graduating seniors and families
Commencement Excerceises
will be held on Main Hall Green under the tent at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, June 13.
All obligations to the university, financial as well as academic, must be met before Commencement day, June 13.
Any Lawrence student who does not wish to participate in the formal ceremony on June 13 may be excused by informing Acting Dean Uecke or Provost and Dean of the Faculty Burrows in writing by Thursday, June 10. We assume all eligible graduates will be in attendance unless we are informed to the contrary.
No tickets will be distributed. The ceremony will be held under a tent on Main Hall Green.
Rehearsal
Commencement exercises will be rehearsed in Memorial Chapel beginning promptly at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 11. Graduates will be receiving important information pertaining to the Commencement ceremony and are expected to attend and to be on time.
Senior picnic
The university invites seniors and families to a buffet picnic on Main Hall Green on Saturday, June 12, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Rain site is the Warch Campus Center.
President’s reception
Members of the graduating class, families and friends are cordially invited to a reception held by President Jill Beck and Professor Robert Beck in the Pusey Room of the Warch Campus Center on Saturday, June 12, from 2 to 4 p.m.
Academic procession
Candidates for degrees will assemble on the walk east of Memorial Chapel no later than 10 a.m. on Sunday, June 13. In the event of rain, assembly will take place at 9:45 a.m. on the first floor of the Seeley G. Mudd Library. Please be prompt!
Commencement information center
The Hochkammer Information Desk at the Warch Campus Center will be open throughout Commencement weekend. Staff will be available to answer questions and provide service to students and their families. You may contact the information desk in person or by calling 920-832-7000.
Academic caps and gowns, class rings, and cards
Place your orders at the Graduate Fair in the Underground Bookstore for caps, gowns, rings, graduation cards and invitations. The fair will be held on Monday, April 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday, April 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Commencement video/photographs
As a service to graduating seniors and their families, the ceremony will be professionally videotaped and a professional photographer will photograph each student as she or he receives a diploma. The photographer will contact you regarding the availability of duplicate prints. The university will post the Commencement video on the Lawrence Web site.
Buchanan Kiewit Recreation Center hours
- Friday, June 11, 6:45 a.m.-7 p.m. (pool open 4-6:30 p.m.)
- Saturday, June 12, 9 a.m.-7 p.m. (pool open 10 a.m.-3 p.m.)
- Visitors will be asked to sign in.
Parking
From College Avenue turn south on Oneida Street. A public parking ramp is on the left. The ramp costs $1 per visit before 9 p.m., $2 after 9 p.m., and is free on Sundays. The Commencement site is three blocks east of the ramp.
Note: Handicapped parking is located adjacent to Memorial Chapel. Shuttle service for individuals with handicaps will be provided to the Warch Campus Center and Main Hall Green from 8-10:15 a.m. and again at the conclusion of Commencement until 1:30 p.m. Post-Commencement pick-up will be at the College Avenue crosswalk adjacent to the library.
Pets
For the safety of those attending Commencement exercises we ask that pets, other than those needed for assistance, be kept away from the campus green area.
