	Truncation Truncation is like a wildcard. Added to the stem of a word, it will find that stem plus anything that comes after it. The symbol used to truncate a word depends upon the index, database, or Web search engine you are using.
	environ*	will return records containing the terms environment, environments, environmental, and so forth. The asterisk * is used as the truncation symbol in LUCIA (the library's online catalog), PsycInfo, and Expanded Academic ASAP.

Other databases will use a variety of other truncation symbols, for example, some may use an exclamation point ! or a question mark ?. Be sure to look at the help provided for the databases to see exactly what symbol is used to truncate terms in each.
