Media Center

The Media Center is the central library location for audiovisual materials and equipment as well as for M-class scores (MT scores are on the third floor). Also in the Media Center are reserve materials for conservatory courses (shelved under the instructor's name) and all audiovisual reserves. Audiovisual materials include compact discs, LPs, CD-ROMs, videocassettes, videodiscs, and language tapes. Fourteen listening stations are equipped for headphone listening with an assortment of compact-disc players, turntables, cassette decks, and amplifiers. Available in the Media Center complex are two large video viewing rooms each seating up to twenty-five people, and three smaller ones each seating up to five. One of the large viewing rooms supports videodisc playback, has a 50-inch projection television and a 16-millimeter projector, and is equipped to receive downlink satellite transmissions. Viewing rooms may be used on a walk-in basis upon presentation of a Lawrence ID or driver's license, or they may be reserved in advance, either in person or by phone (call x6757).

Audiovisual equipment (audio cassette recorders, overhead projectors, and slide projectors and screens) is available for use by Lawrence faculty and students and may be reserved in advance, in person or by phone. Equipment may be checked out for up to twenty-four hours.

Also located in the Media Center and available for listening are Freshman Studies tapes, Lawrence convocation tapes, and the current academic year's conservatory concert tapes (older concert tapes are housed in the conservatory).

A student worker is on duty at all times to provide assistance with all Media Center collections and services, including accessing music scores and sound recordings.

The director of the Media Center is Tom Sykes.
