Instructions for Scanning TEXT

Preliminary Instructions:

OmniPage Pro: Scanning Text Documents

  1. To choose the OmniPage Pro 8.0 software program select the OmniPage Pro desktop icon. You are now ready to scan text.

  2. Select the AUTO button. You'll be taken through several steps by the Scan Wizard:

  3. To scan your document open the “minimized” HP ScanJet Scanner Source window that appears at the bottom of the screen. Select BW Photo [Black and White Photo] image type. Select Preview Scan and wait until the scan finishes. The scanner might take a few moments to warm-up. Select Final Scan. OmniPage will now allow you to check your scan. If the Check Recognition window does not appear repeat the steps found in section two.

  4. The results of the scan are checked much like word processing text by a spell checker. The large window at the right shows a magnified image of the page you scanned. The window to the left indicates how the scanning program is interpreting the image into text characters. The window labeled Change to allows you to type in the text that you would like to appear in the final document. The Suggestion window offers you alternate words and spellings.

OmniPage provides several options for dealing with words or strings of characters not present in the program's dictionary. You can accept the program’s alternative text, skip the change, or type in the correct text.

If you like, you can ignore simple misspellings and correct them when you open the file in your word processing program. However, it is necessary to immediately correct irregular text characters not recognizable as punctuation marks, numerals or alphabetic characters.

  5. After you have checked your document through the Check Recognition feature, select either Stop Scanning Pages or Scan More Pages.

  6. When you are finished scanning, make sure you save your file. A Save As box will appear and you can save your file to a diskette or network directory. Choose a destination to save your text file, name your text file, select type of text file, and click the save button.

  7. Now, you can either scan another document (jump back to step 1) or close OmniPage Pro. Make sure to log-off the scanner station when you finish.
