A dormitory for Lawrence women for 42 years, and then Lawrence men, Peabody House was one of Appleton's grandest residences. It was the home of George F. Pebody, partner in the old Pettibone-Peabody dry goods firm and a large benefactor to the college. In the early 1900s he built Peabody Conservatory and a few years later his home was given as a dormitory.
