Please see the new Course Reserve Guidelines.

Reserve materials are kept securely behind the circulation desk and may be requested from a circulation worker by title and class number. Materials MUST be checked out to be used.  Instructors designate reserve loan periods of one hour, two hours, one day or three days. Permanent reserve materials provided by academic departments and organizations are kept in the same location.

To put materials on reserve:
Bring materials for reserve processing to the circulation desk with completed blue reserve cards for shelf reserves and white reserve cards for electronic reserves. Cards are available at the circulation desk or online here. All cards and personal items will be returned to the instructors at the end of the term. Personal items will be cataloged and receive barcodes and magnetic detection strips.

Shelf reserves:
Fill out blue cards for all shelf items such as books, DVDs, CDs and articles and bring the items and cards to the circulation desk. The circulation staff will try to place materials on reserve within 24 hours of receiving them. However, during busy times, such as the first week of classes, this may not be possible. Please keep this in mind when assigning reserve readings to your students.

Electronic reserves:
Instructors may bring to the reserve desk a clean copy of an article or selection from a book to be scanned for electronic reserves with a completed white reserve card for each item.  If the article has been previously used you need only bring in the card. If the article can be linked to from an electronic database, instructors may bring to the reserve desk a completed white reserve card (with full citation information) only or submit this electronic form.  Note that it can take up to two weeks to get articles online. Follow our guide to adding an article to course reserves for more information on placing articles on reserve.

Music reserves:
Please use the same process for digitizing CD tracks as for electronic reserves. If you would like to put the CD on the shelf, as well, place a red dot on the card. If you have any question please contact Antoinette at x6995 or via email antoinette.powell@lawrence.edu . Search for previously digitized recordings or browse previously digitized recordings (oncampus only).

Photocopies of articles:
Instructors may provide the library with photocopies of articles to be placed on reserve behind the circulation desk. Instructors are also responsible for maintaining compliance with copyright guidelines. If you have questions about copyright, please check with a librarian. And, as always, a blue reserve card must be filled out for each item. Questions? Call Cindy at x6965 (email: cynthia.m.patterson@lawrence.edu).

Exams:
A permanent file of practice exams is kept at the circulation desk. Instructors should bring in copies of practice exams for these permanent files. These exams may be scanned for electronic reserves. Instructors not wishing to have their practice exams on electronic reserve should state this when the exams are brought to the circulation desk.
