1847-SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION-1997
On January 15, 1847, before Wisconsin even became a state, its territorial legislature granted a charter to a small frontier school called "Lawrence Institute of Wisconsin"-a name soon changed to Lawrence University.
One hundred and fifty years later, Lawrence is celebrating its sesquicentennial anniversary with events to be held throughout the 1996-97 academic year.
This site offers alumni of Lawrence and alumnae of Milwaukee-Downer College (with which Lawrence consolidated in 1964) the opportunity to check out the events of the
sesquicentennial year on a continually updated Calendar; test their knowledge of institutional history with weekly Sesqui-Trivia questions, and add their own college memories to First Person Singular, an on-going collection of reminiscences.
