Purpose and Policy
The Archives are maintained in order to preserve the materials which are created or accumulated in the course of campus events. Most of the materials which are kept in Archives are official publications of a department or group from the Milwaukee-Downer or Lawrence campuses. Working records of the business office, contracts or charters, and other unpublished documents are also included. All of these are deposited in order to preserve a record of the history of the university.
Some of the most frequently used materials in Archives are class yearbooks, catalogs, newspapers, honors papers, pictures and other memorabilia. Many of these things can be identified through the computer catalog. Call numbers will indicate "archives" or have a "+" sign above their number. Since most of these materials are "one-of-a-kind," the door to the collection is kept locked at all times.
If you would like to use something that is in the Archives, please explain your request to Julia Stringfellow, University Archivist, or a reference librarian. Archival materials may not be taken outside the library.
