Retiring faculty often wonder if the University Archives would like to have the myriad files they have accumulated over their tenure at Lawrence. The simple answer is "Yes, we want your files." However, you can help us out by doing a preliminary sort of your records. Processing a collection of faculty papers is time-consuming and we don't always "keep" everything. Below is a list of the items we want and the items we do not want. When in doubt, please feel free to call the Archivist for guidance.
Items we do want:- Copies of publications associated with the faculty member or his/her colleagues in the department.
- Research notes about particularly distinctive projects or publications completed.
- Awards and honors received.
- Photographs relating to his/her activities.
- Newspaper clippings relating to his/her activities.
- Books - other than textbooks, we would like to look at these, although in many cases we will not need them for the library's collection.
- Student records.
- Course materials unless the course led to a publication or was a result of a publication.
- Typical university business - meeting minutes, general memos, benefit information, etc.
- Artifacts, except in exceptional cases.
- Reprints or photocopies of professional reading used to complete course preparations/research.
- Textbooks unless authored by faculty member.
