Honorary Degrees of Retiring Faculty
John C. Wollwage, Vice President-Research, The Institite of Paper Chemistry, 1978
"As an alumnus of The Institute of Paper Chemistry, you are aware of the concept of the 'scientific generalist' exemplified in the graduate program of this institution. Your career shows that you learned your lessons well.
Forty years ago, armed with a Ph.D. and boundless energy, you set out from graduate school to conquer the world of industry. You made your mark as scientist, engineer, research director, manager, and executive. Then, with energy undiminished, you made the transition to education and research, and returned to the Institute in a key administrative role. You saw a need to be filled--a job to be done--and you undertook it with characteristic enthusiasm. The Institute is the better for your efforts, and the Appleton community grateful for your contributions.
Yours has been a busy and a productive career indeed, and we are proud to honor you today for your accomplishments.
By the authority vested in me, I now confer upon you the degree of Master of Science, ad eundem, and admit you to its right, its privileges, and its obligations."
