Registration on the Lawrence University Network is necessary in order to access the Internet, printers and shared document folders across campus. Follow this guide sequentially to successfully register your personal computer. If you need assistance, please contact the Helpdesk.
STEP 1: WIRELESS AND ETHERNET CONNECTION

Enable your wireless adapter. At the Wireless networks detected message, select LUwireless. Click Connect.

From the left-hand column, Related Tasks, click Change advanced settings. The Wireless Network Connection Properties window appears. Select the Wireless Networks tab.

If LUwireless does not appear in the list, click Add. Create an entry using LUwireless as the SSID, WPA as the network authentication method, and TKIP as the data encryption method on the Association tab.

Select LUwireless from the list of networks and click Properties. Choose the Authentication tab and change the EAP type to Protected EAP (PEAP).

Click on the Properties button below the pull down menu. The Protected EAP Properties window appears. In the Select Authentication Method box, ensure that Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) is chosen. Then, click the Configure button.

In the EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties window, uncheck the option “Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any)”.

Now back out by clicking OK on each of the open windows in succession.

After a short time, a Wireless Network Connection message should appear. Click on this message.

When the credentials dialog box appears, type in your username, password, and VIKING as the domain.

The first time you log in, a couple additional steps are necessary (thereafter, your computer will connect automatically): First, the Wireless Network Connection message will appear. Click on this message. When prompted to verify a WLAN security certificate, click OK. Your wireless connection should now be complete.
STEP 2: UPDATE OR INSTALL ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE
All computers must have current antivirus software installed in order to register on the LU Network. Download any updates available for your antivirus software. (Note: Although you will not have access to the majority of the Internet until your computer is registered, you WILL have access to antivirus updates.)
If you currently do not have antivirus software, LU provides Kaspersky no cost to students.
To download Kaspersky antivirus, be sure to completely uninstall any other antivirus software components including live updates and registry folders – an essential Once files are uninstalled do the following:

Open an Internet Browser (such as Internet Explorer – recommended – or Firefox).

A security page will appear. If using Internet Explorer, click Continue to this Website (not recommended). If using Firefox, click Add an Exception. Then click Get certificate. Click Confirm security exception.

On the Lawrence Network page, under Step 2, click on “Information Technology Services provides anti-virus software” and follow the instructions to download and install Kaspersky.
STEP 3: UPDATE YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM
All computers must have current operating system software in order to register on the LU Network. Please follow these steps to ensure your operating system has the latest software updates. (Note: Although you will not have access to the majority of the Internet until your computer is registered, you WILL have access to operating system updates.)

Go to www.update.microsoft.com.

Click Express to check for high-priority updates.

Windows Update will check for such updates and display them for your review.

Select the updates and click Install Updates.
-
Repeat 1-4 until you are advised that "No more updates are available".
STEP 4: NETWORK REGISTRATION

Open an Internet Browser (such as Internet Explorer – recommended – or Firefox).

A security page will appear. If using Internet Explorer, click Continue to this Website (not recommended). If using Firefox, click Add an Exception. Then click Get certificate. Click Confirm security exception.

A Lawrence University Network page will appear. After you have fully read the information, click Continue.
-
Select the first link.
-
At the Lawrence Terms and Agreement page read and agree to the terms by clicking I Agree.

Select Wireless Laptop from the drop down list. Enter your Username and Password. Click Download.

A download window will appear. Save the file to your Desktop and click Save.

Go to your Desktop. Locate and run the Bradford Dissolvable Agent file.

If any pop-up messages appear, select Continue.

Your computer will be scanned for required software. Once complete, either a success page or a failure page will appear. If the failure page appears, click on the link to see how to resolve the failure. If the success page appears, you have successfully completed registration.

Reboot computer to complete registration.
Note: If your computer is found to be interfering with the LU Network or spreading viruses, it will be disconnected from the network until the problem is resolved. Contact the Helpdesk for assistance.
CONNECT TO YOUR PERSONAL NETWORK SPACE

Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop (or in the Start menu) to open.

From the Menu Bar, select Tools - Map Network Drive.

Select drive P: In the folder field, type: \\curtis.lawrence.edu\student\username (substitute your LU username).

Check the box, Reconnect at Logon.
-
Select Different Username.
-
In the username field, type: Viking\username (substitute your LU username).
-
In the password field, enter your network password. Click OK. Click Finish.
To reconnect after your computer is restarted:

Double-click My Computer.

Double-click the drive you mapped: \\curtis.lawrence.edu\student\username

At the password prompt, enter your network password.
This \\curtis.lawrence.edu\student\username folder is where you can save documents on the network. When you log in to a campus computer, this folder is simply called My Documents. Technology Services strongly recommends that you save documents to your network folder. Why? If something should happen to your computer, documents saved on the networked are automatically backed up and available.
CONNECT TO CAMPUS SHARE (CLASS SHARE)

Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop (or in the Start menu) to open.

Select Tools - Map Network Drive.

Select drive U: In the folder field, type: \\curtis.lawrence.edu\campus_share

Check the box Reconnect at Logon. Select different user name.

In the username field, type: Viking\username (substitute your LU username). In the password field, enter your network password. Click OK. Click Finish.
To reconnect after your computer is restarted:

Double-click My Computer.

Double-click the drive you just mapped: \\curtis.lawrence.edu\campus_share
At the password prompt, enter your network password.
CONNECT TO CAMPUS LAB PRINTERS
To connect to a LU printer, you must first log in to your personal network space or campus share (see above). Once logged in:

Log in to your network space or campus share.

Go to Start–Printers and Faxes.

Click Add a Printer.

At the Printer Wizard, click Next.
-
Select A network printer or a printer attached to another computer and click Next.

Choose Select a shared printer by name. In the Name box, type \\curtis.lawrence.edu\. A list of printers should appear. Choose the \\curtis.lawrence.edu\library_public_2nd.
If a list does not appear, type the printer name:\\curtis.lawrence.edu\library_public_2nd.

Click Next. For your username, type in Viking\username (substituting your LU username). Enter your password. Click OK.

Choose if you want this printer to be your default printer or not. Click Next.

Click Finish.
This adds all the public printers automatically including the printer in your residence hall.
Documents sit at the printer for 15 minutes. You will need to release your job from the print release station in order to actually print your document.
ACCESS YOUR LU E-MAIL

Open an Internet Browser and go to http://webmail.lawrence.edu.

Log in with your username and network password.
