MATH 217

Consulting Project (Including individual papers, a group paper, and a group presentation)

This consulting project is worth 25% of your final grade (I changed this from the initial 15% written on the syllabus, as I think it will be a time-consuming and integral part of your learning during the last part of the term—the extra 10% will be taken off the final exam, which will now be worth just 15%).

As soon as you meet with Mary (2-11-09) you can begin the write-up of your Methods/Data Collection section of the paper (in fact, I strongly encourage you to do this as close to the meeting time as possible, so things are fresh in your mind—you can also email Mary to get more information and clarifications).

By the end of next week (2-20-09) you will be equipped to do all the statistical analysis required of the project.

Timeline:

Monday, March 2: Individual Project Papers due (in class)

Wednesday, March 4: Joy gives back the graded individual papers, with detailed feedback

Monday, March 9: Single Project Paper (from the whole class) due (in class)—Joy will get feedback to the class ASAP (so you can integrate it into Wednesday’s presentation)

Wednesday, March 11: Final group presentation to Mary Kohrell (and get small changes or fixes from Mary)

Friday, March 13: Email Mary and Joy the final version of your group paper

Grade Breakdown:

Individual Project Paper: 20%

Group Presentation: 2.5%

Group Paper 2.5%
