MATH 217—Suggestions for Group Paper
- Depending on how Mary responds to my email
(3/6), you should appropriately analyze (or re-analyze) research question
#3.
- I realize most of you didn’t have time to
“data snoop” the survey information before writing your individual papers.
This is your chance to look more deeply at all the data (in a descriptive
way). Luckily, this shouldn’t be as time consuming, as there shouldn’t be
additional recoding in Minitab. Here are analyses you should consider:
- Are respondents’ answers to survey questions
1a-1j associated with any of the other demographics (previously, you only
considered education level)?
- Are respondents’ answers to survey questions
1a-1j (opinions) associated with their answers to survey questions
4a-4n,4q (sources of information)? (Clearly, this would be tons of
chi-square tests, but you would only need to mention and explore cases
where the p-value is less than 0.05.)
- Is participation (question 6) associated
with questions 1a-1j (opinions) or with questions 2a-2k (behavior
changes)? (Again, more chi-square tests.)
- What are the sample percentages of people
from each of the three counties? (Only answer this if Mary gives you the
appropriate information.)
- Other things you can think of? (Remember,
this is your project.)
- Be sure all of you work from a correct data
file (some of you seemed to have problems with mis-codings).
- It’s fine for you to split up the data
analysis, but be sure to double-check any (descriptively) significant
additional findings (that is, make sure at least two people verify an
interesting finding).
- It’s important that your final paper read as
if it’s one voice. So if you split up any of the writing, be sure to edit
the paper with an eye toward consistency.
- Most of you made good suggestions about how
the study could have been improved or a new study could be done (be sure
to mention these in the final paper). Furthermore, in your discussion,
keep in mind Mary’s interests. How can the findings help inform her
actions?
