Math 207 Homework Assignment 5

REMINDER: As mentioned on previous homework assignments, I expect your homework solutions to be thorough (read: appropriate explanations), well-written (use context and complete sentences), neat, complete (thoughtfully answer all parts of the question), stapled, and in your own words/explanations (re: Honor Code).

IMPORTANT NOTES:

• You need not use the continuity correction as described in Section 6.4. (We did not discuss this in class.) Note the textbook does use the continuity correction, so their answers will be slightly off from yours.

• Some of the problems ask for the approximate sampling distribution of a statistic. First check that the conditions are met for the sampling distribution to be approximately normal (or exactly normal), and then give the distribution (normal) and the appropriate mean and standard deviation.

• For problem 7.72, you need to use the quadratic formula:

Be sure to check both possible answers to see which one works in the problem.
