Review for the Final Exam

The final exam will cover the following topics:

• HTML and web applications
• Servlets
• JSP
• JSF
• RMI

As usual, I will be asking some short answer essay questions. For HTML, Servlets, JSP, and RMI I am most likely to ask essay questions that ask you to explain how something works. Here are some examples of questions I might ask.

• How are interactive HTML applications built? In your answer, explain the role that HTML forms, HTTP POST/GET requests, and the web server play in making web applications work.
• How do you use a servlet or a JSP page to respond to a form request?
• What is a distributed object application? How does RMI help you to build such an application?

I also plan on asking a design question. The question will give you a situation and ask you to outline the design of a JSF application that is an appropriate solution to the situation. As part of this exercise I will ask you to design an underlying database, describe the structure of the pages you would build for the application, and maybe ask you to describe in more detail how the application handles a particular task.
