MIDTERM EXAM: ONE Midterm
Exam will be given during a lab session (Jan. 30).Questions will
be short answer, identification, and short essay. Study questions
for this exam will be provided about a week before the test. The
exam will include only material covered in the study questions.

BJØRKLUNDEN: A weekend at
Bjørklunden is planned for February 23-25, 2007.
We will be discussing In the Lake of the Woods and viewing several
films related to memory, language, and human rationality. If you
are unable to attend, let me know, and we can arrange an alternative
assignment.

LABORATORY: Attendance
and participation in the laboratory meetings are required. The
schedule of laboratory meetings and the requirements for laboratory
reports, final project proposal, final project written and oral reports
is in a separate manual and will be discussed further at the first lab
meeting on Tuesday, January 9, 9:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m., or 2:30 p.m.

Laboratory
assignments: Some of the
experiments for lab sessions will be conducted before lab using
the CogLab web-based experiments. You must
perform these labs by 4:00 p.m. on the day before the lab session for which it
is assigned (i.e., Monday). These assignments are marked in bold on the syllabus. Other
labs
will be done using stopwatches, paper, and pencil on the day of the lab. You
will be writing up different sections of a lab report for one of the
labs from the lab sessions scheduled:
Lab 1 or 2: Abstract
Lab 3 or 4: Results
Lab 5 or 6: Discussion (answer
specific questions)
Lab 7 or 8: Discussion (answer
specific questions)
These assignments are
explained in the lab notebook.

Additional CogLab
assignments: You are also required
to do some additional demonstration experiments outside of class (using
a PC with web connection; Microsoft Explorer works better as a browser
for doing these labs). These five
experiments take between 5-20 minutes and will provide class data on
the experiments discussed in lectures. You
must perform these labs by 4:00 p.m. on the day before the day it will be
discussed in class (the date indicated on the syllabus).

Final project
written report: As
part of the laboratory component of the course, you will design,
conduct, and report the results of an independent research project in
cognitive psychology. You are encouraged
to work in groups of two or
three on the project research. The final
written
report will be written as an experimental report, using the standard
American
Psychological Association (APA) format. More
information is given in the lab notebook.
