Topics for the Second Midterm
The second midterm exam will cover chapters 5, 6, and 7. Just as in the first exam the problems will be a mix of theory and applications.
Here is a list of topics for the exam:
- Gauss elimination
- Partial pivoting and scaled partial pivoting
- Computing matrix inverses and determinants by Gauss elimination
- LU factorization
- Euler's method
- Taylor methods (including error estimates)
- Runge-Kutta method
- Systems and higher order DEs
- Jacobi, Gauss-Seidel, and SOR methods
- Gradient descent
- Condition numbers
Once again I will allow you to bring a single page of notes to the exam.
