Format for the first midterm exam

For all of the exams in this course you will be writing one or more small programs in class. This first midterm will focus on JavaFX, so I will be asking you to write a simple FXML application. I will give you a starter project with a little bit of code in it, along with instructions on what the application should do. You will have 70 minutes to complete work on the application and upload it on Canvas.

The exam will be an open note exam - during the exam you will be welcome to refer to the course web site and also copy and reuse code from any of my examples or from your work on the homework.

Topics to review

The exam problem may involve the following:

• Reading data from a text file.
• Working with lists: adding items to a list, iterating over a list, and removing items from a list.
• Creating and using simple data classes.
• Setting up a user interface in Scene Builder.
• Writing action methods in a controller class.
• Working with text fields, list views, and buttons.
• Determining which item in a list view has been selected.
