This Fall, Carrie will be a featured guest artist in recital with Kathrine Handford, organist on October 1 in the Lawrence Chapel at 7:30 pm.
Carrie is a program assistant for the American Composers Forum. This work includes administering grants and competitions; promoting composer opportunities; and generally helping composers at all stages of their careers solve challenges in making and sustaining a career. The job has been a lucky accident because seeing composers struggle as independent artists - and getting insight into how the successful ones keep their heads above water - has given her a new, indirect view of being a freelance singer. We're not all that different from composers as it turns out.
As a performer, since finishing her master's at the University of Minnesota, Carrie's passion for 16th- and 17th-century music has taken over her singing life. She performs regularly with lutenist Phil Rukavina, and most recently was featured as a soloist in the Rose Ensemble's Elizabethan Christmas show, which was broadcast on Chicago's WFMT, and performed cantatas, scenes, and the role of Belinda in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas at Vancouver Early Music Festival and the International Baroque Institute at Longy last summer. She is making the most of a grand supportive community of instrumental collaborators in the Twin Cities.
Ivy has received a full-tuition scholarship with a stipend of $14,500 a year at Indiana University - Bloomington to pursue a Phd in Spanish Literature with a minor in ethnomusicology. And there is a bonus. She and Jessica Bozeman will be season ticket buddies for the opera there!
