Problem Verb Review and Relative Pronoun Practice

Brief Overview: -Spanish V
-Unit/Chapter 9-Holidays and Celebrations
-Section 4-Christmas/New Year’s Eve Traditions
-Preceded by study of negative sentence structure and popular holiday celebrations in Spain and Mexico.

Objectives: Continue practicing the conjugation of problem verbs in all possible forms. Review and practice relative pronouns while also incorporating the celebration content of this unit.

Resources:-verb of the day sheet (traer)
-individual white boards, erasers, and markers
-game sentence sheet w/ transparency

Set Induction: To begin class today, I will greet the students in Spanish and then I will draw their attention to the board to remind them of our verb of the day activity. Generally, the students try to guess what the word means, and briefly discuss amongst themselves what they think some of the correct forms would be.

Methodology:
Beginning Class

1. T- greet students in Spanish
S- prepare to start class, listen to class plan

2. T- ask students to define verb of the day with an example
S- take out verb of the day sheet and begin with definition

Verb of the Day Activity: The purpose of this activity is to have students practice verb conjugations in the many different forms on a regular basis. We do verb of the day every Tuesday and Thursday.

1. T- allow students 5-7 minutes to work on verb of the day
conjugations
S- work on verb of the day conjugation sheet alone

2. T- ask for volunteers to properly conjugate verb forms
S- volunteer to give verb conjugations and correct any errors

3. T- answer any verb of the day questions and then give students directions for next activity
S-ask any questions they may have and listen for the explanation of the next activity

Relative Pronoun Practice: The purpose of this activity is to give students practice with the proper placement in and translation of sentences using the relative pronouns. They will either be choosing the proper pronoun or translating a sentence and then writing their answers on the whiteboards in a game setting. Also, all of the sentences talk about the holiday content they have been studying.

1. T- explain how we will practice the relative pronouns using
the whiteboards in a game
S- listen to rules and then pick up a whiteboard

2. T- play whiteboard game using 10 or 12 sentences
S- write correct answers on the whiteboards as fast as possible

3. T-ask students to put away whiteboards and then give
homework instructions
S- put away whiteboards and markers, and then listen for
homework directions

Assessment: Have students give me proper conjugations of the different verb forms during the verb of the day activity. Then, scan the students’ whiteboards for the correct answers during the relative pronoun game.

Closure: Give students directions for their homework, which is related to the game they will have just played, and give an example of a sentence they could write. The students will write their own sentences using the relative pronouns for a review session tomorrow.
