As Max Kaus points out in his article on the war years with Heckel (see Heckel entry 82.192), Kerschbaumer learned the lithographic technique from Heckel which they were stationed in Flanders during World War I.  His graphic oeuvre, however, consisted of no more than a dozen lithographs, of which only a few still exist.  Even this unassuming print for the collector’s portfolio Die Schaffenden gives good indication of Kerschbaumer’s strong concentration on geometric structure.  While known for his Cézanne-like conception of color, Kerschbaumer was always more concerned with geometric shape and line than with tonal structures.
