Ishikawa Toyomasa

Ishikawa Toyomasa (1773-1856) was a pupil of Ishikawa Toyonobu known for producing ukiyo-e nishiki-es of children. He was influenced first by Harunobum then Shigemasa.

The Fourth Month: Playing Kotori (The "Catch Child" Game).  Series: Furyu Juni-ka-getsu (Fanciful Twelve Months).  The print is from a reprint edition published in the early 20th century using the original blocks. Kotori is a children's game.  One child is the tagger (oni) and another is a protector (oya).  All other children are linked up after the protector.  The tagger tries to catch a child at the end of the line.  When the tagger catches someone he is awarded the place next to the protector while the child he caught becomes the next tagger.
