Debby Kupinsky: Eden?
Ceramic artist Debbie Kupinsky is currently the Uihlein Fellow in Studio Art at Lawrence University. This exhibition introduces the Lawrence community to Kupinky's installation and ceramic works.
Kupinsky invents, casts, copies and assembles objects in installations that are reminiscent of the past in a nostalgic manner. It is as if she is attempting to recreate a past that was more meaningful, inventing a narrative that is open to the viewer’s interpretation. Expressed in her own words, “For me my recent works talk about our inability to truly escape the past.”

Bernard Gilardi: A Private Iconography
Bernard Gilardi (1920-2008) started painting in the late 1950s and continued to make folk inspired oil paintings throughout his life in his basement studio. Although considered an “outsider” artists, he was not fully removed from the art world, and his work can be linked to many artistic styles including American Regionalism and the “magic realist” style utilizing personal iconography and Surrealist tendencies.
