Each of the VCSC staff members serve as campus liaisons to the agencies listed below. We are in the procecss of developing strong partnernships with these agencies, enabling us to provide valuable and necessary volunteer opportunities to those students who are interested in volunteering at one location on a regular basis.

- The Emergency Shelter of Fox Valley would like to have an extra volunteer on site each day in December (except Christmas) to help with carrying and storing the many donations that they hope to recceive during the holiday season.

- ESL (English as Second Language): working with a tutee who is learning English as a second language. Proficiency in a foreign language is not required to become an ESL tutor.
- Adult Basic Literacy: working with an English-speaking adult who wants to improve their reading and/or writing skills, or helping them prepare for the or TOEFL exam

- Harmony Cafe needs several volunteers for Thursday night Open Mic events, 6:30-9:30pm, as well as musical events hosted on Friday and Saturday nights. Volunteers who are comfortable greeting guests and encouraging them to sign in, or helping with sound equiptment set-up, take-down, and sound checks are especially needed. Experience is not necessary.
- Volunteers interested in helping Harmony Cafe as a cafe assistant are needed to aid with basic coffeehouse operations
- Help Harmony advertise events by stopping in to pick up fliers and posting them down the avenue, on campus, or elsewhere. This could involve a few hours each month, on your schedule. All businesses must give permission before you post the fliers in their windows.
- Performing at Thursday night Open Mic events counts as volunteering! Play music, sing, or read your poetry!

"Community Herbs" at the Appleton Farmer's Market, Contact: Susan Richardson, susan.richardson@ces.uwex.edu, or call (920)832-2265. Community Herbs is an Appleton program for local students. The group will be selling their herbs at the Downtown farmer's market October through December of 2008. Volunteers are needed to staff the table and handle sales. Check the schedule for specific dates and times. The Appleton Downtown farmer's market gathers every Saturday morning, 8:30am-12:30pm (or whenever the herbs run out) on College Ave., or inside the City Center Plaze for cold weather.
Community Herbs, Contact: Susan Richardson, susan.richardson@ces.uwex.edu, or call (920)832-2265. Community Herbs is an Appleton program for local students. Four herb gardens are planted and maintained for the purpose of raising funds for the group. Throughout the year, this program has a need for volunteers with a variety of interests and skills. Help is needed to: till the gardens in the spring, promote fundraisers in June 2009, and contribute to general garden maintenance year round!
Additionally, free training classes are offered for a variety of garden skills. These classes are held at Appleton West High School on Thursdays from 3:30-5:00pm. Interested students must contact Susan before attending these sessions.
A community wide food assesment is also in the future (spring 2009). Interested students should contact Susan for more information.
AseraCare Hospice, Contact: Ashley at ashley.ausloos@aseracare.com or call 1-866-268-3203. AsceraCare Hospice is looking for individuals to become companion volunteers their hospice patients. Patients are located at different facilities/homes in Appleton. Providing emotional support, caregiver relief, and being a friend are just some of the ways to help these patients. Free training is provided.
The Housing Parnership of the Fox Cities, Contact: Charis, charis@housing-partnership.org, (920)731-6644 ext. 103. The Fox Cities Housing Partnership is looking for volunteers on November 4th, 8th, 15th, December 13th, 20th, January 10, or 17. Hours are 8:00am-12:00pm. Volunteers will be doing maintenance work on old homes in the Fox Cities to help families in need. Skills preferred but not necessary. Call ahead for dates of greatest need.
