Welcome to the Lawrence University Volunteer and Community Service Center (The VCSC)!
VCSC Announcements!
- The VCSC office will be minimally staffed throughout the summer as our student staff members are not on campus at this time. We look forward to beginning the 2008-2009 academic year!
- We look forward to hearing from our 2008 SVOG recipients as they complete their unique summer volunteer opportunities. To learn more about what these students are doing over the summer, see our SVOG page.
- Lawrence University’s Volunteer and Community Service Center (VCSC) has been accepted to partner with Wisconsin Campus Compact’s M3C Fellows Program for the 2008-2009 school year. The M3C Fellows Program is a scholarship program created to support a cohort of predominantly low-income and/or first generation college students who have demonstrated academic abilities while maintaining involvement and passion for community building through service and civic engagement activities.
The LU M3C Fellows Program will allow the VCSC to expand to eight student positions. Each staff member will hold a unique position in the VCSC office as well as working with one of eight community agencies near campus. Each staff member will receive a work-study stipend as well as a $1000 educational award upon completing the year.
The Lawrence University M3C Fellows Program will allow the VCSC to better connect with local agencies in the area while increasing the student’s personal commitment to civic engagement and fostering an understanding of citizenship. We are excited to see what next year’s VCSC M3C Fellows will do for both the Lawrence and Appleton communities!
Please explore our web site to find out about the volunteer opportunities and events that you can get involved with on campus and in the Appleton community!
We are always willing to help you get involved, so do not hesitate to stop in our office (located in Raymond House) or contact us with any questions!
The Volunteer and Community Service Center's Mission Statement:
The VCSC is dedicated to promoting lifelong values of commitment to service and civic engagement among Lawrence communities by serving as a source of information and support for students, faculty, staff and their organizations. Staff aims to accomplish this by meeting with students one-on-one, facilitating communication between student service organizations through monthly service council meetings, and providing support to faculty interested in community based engagement. Activities supported by the VCSC include ongoing programs such as mentoring and tutoring services within the Fox Cities area, annual events in collaboration with student organizations, and one-time service-oriented opportunities for both individuals and student organizations. Every effort is made to match volunteer interests with available service opportunities.
In keeping with the tradition of its founding as a student-led organization, the VCSC is currently run by five student staff members with the support of two professional staff members.
