The Housing Lottery Process

What is the Lottery?

Computer generated lottery numbers are randomly assigned to all students. Lottery numbers are divided by class - seniors class standing students receive the lowest/best numbers with an incremental progression thereafter. Lottery numbers are posted outside of the Viking Room in the Union and on the Housing Selection web page.

Housing lottery numbers are now generated based on terms completed at Lawrence. Standing is based on the number terms completed at the end of Term II:

Senior – at least 7 terms
Junior – at least 4 terms
Sophomore – less than 4 terms

* Students who have transferred to Lawrence University from other colleges shall be counted as having been enrolled for three terms, plus all subsequent terms completed.

Class Standing Petitions

Your lottery number is randomly generated based on your class standing. Petitions can be obtained from the the Housing Office (2nd floor, Raymond House). Petitions to change your class standing are due on Monday, April 14th by 5:00 p.m. You may petition if:

You are awaiting the transfer of units from either an ACM or Lawrence-sponsored program or another accepted accredited university. You must prove that after the transfer is complete, he or she will be no more than one term short of the next class standing.

You have transferred from another college or university during the previous three academic terms.

Housing Contract Importance

All lottery numbers will be printed on your Housing Contract. Check your contract for accuracy and make any necessary corrections with respect to address and personal information. Keep your Housing Contract in a safe place. You cannot select a room without it! The Housing Contract must be signed by you prior to room selection indicating that you understand the contract.
