Requirements of being an RLA
You must meet all of the following requirements to apply to be an RLA.
- full-time Lawrence student
- have sophomore standing or above at time of appointment
- make a full 2008-2009 academic year commitment (must be on campus all
three terms)
- have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (as of end of Term II 2008 records)
- arrive on the evening of September 9th, 2008 for RLA training
General Expectations of being an RLA
- RLAs serve as active supportive team members of the residence life staff.
RLAs should be positive and constructive in their attitude and action with
regard to Lawrence University and the Residence Life Department.
- RLAs develop positive relationships with their floor residents, and are a
visible presence on the floor.
- RLAs conduct informal and spontaneous community development activities for
their floor, as well as support on-campus programming
- RLAs serve as role models for their residents and are expected to follow
and enforce LUCC and campus policies.
- RLAs maintain floor bulletin boards, and change them on a regular basis.
- RLAs complete administrative tasks in a timely manner, including but not
limited to: work orders, incident reports, bi-weekly reports, and programming
reports
- RLAs know emergency procedures and respond to crisis situations.
- RLAs serve as a resource for their residents, and are able to refer
students to the appropriate departments and professionals.
- RLAs are expected to be present for a week of fall training that occurs
before residence halls open.
- RLAs are expected to attend six on-going training sessions held throughout
the year.
- RLAs are expected to participate in a rotational night desk/duty schedule
in each hall. Duty lasts from 8:30pm to 7am the next morning, and
consists of desk coverage from 9:00pm to 12 midnight, rounds of the building,
and being available and present in the building to respond to any building
needs.
- RLAs attend weekly staff meetings with their hall as well as meet
individually with their RHD on a regular basis.
- RLAs help the RHDs in the openings and closings of their buildings,
including Move-in Week, Winter Break, Spring Break, and End of the Year
closing.
- RLAs must participate in a 1-2 day individual staff retreat held during
the second term.
- RLAs maintain a close relationship with their RHD and should consult their
RHD about roommate programs, room changes, room consolidation, or room
assignment processes.
- RLAs participate in an annual performance evaluation process.
