Residence Life Advisor Recruitment
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Can I apply to be an RLA in a specific building or area?
A: Not specifically. While you may be asked during your
interview which buildings you prefer, ultimately, the Department of Residence
Life is looking to hire the best candidates and place them in an appropriate
living environment. Both the needs of the living environment and a
candidate's fit are taken into consideration.
Q: Will I be trained for the RLA Position?
A: Yes, each RLA undergoes a week-long fall training before the
residence halls open, as well as participates in on-going training throughout
the year.
Q: What are the job requirements?
A: Please see the Requirements and General Expectations page.
Q: Are you looking for a certain type of person?
A: No, we are looking for all different kinds of people to fill
our positions. Each living community on campus has different needs, and we
are looking for the best candidates to fill those needs. In the crayon box
of Residence Life, we are not looking for 55 red crayons; we want a variety of
colors.
Q: Do I have to work the weekends?
A: Yes, as a part of the duty schedule, you will be required to work
some weekend nights. Additionally, RLAs work the openings and closings of
the halls.
Q: Do I get to pick my own schedule?
A: Duty schedules are established at the beginning of every term
by each individual hall staff. There are RLAs on duty during all periods when
classes are in session.
Q: Do I get my own room?
A: Yes, you get your own single room for the price of a double in the
hall in which you are placed.
Q: Is the RLA position fun and rewarding?
A: Yes! From programming to relationships build with your
residents, being an RLA is incredibly rewarding.
