A Note About Laundry Services:
A neat feature called “laundry view” allows you to view
machine availability in your own residence hall through a website and you will
receive notification of cycle completion text-message, e-mail message or wireless
PDA. Go to www.laundryview.com to try this feature!
In all residence halls, 300 South Meade, and all quad buildings you will have
the ability to use Viking Gold to activate the machine. In all other locations
the machines will accept quarters instead of tokens.
Included on the following pages is information about living on campus at Lawrence University. Because we are a residential campus, we feel that the experience that you receive in our residence halls must be meaningful, engaging, and unique. That is why we offer a wide variety of living options and an excellent staff to carry out our program.
In addition to the halls described on the website, the university has small houses (residences ranging in size from 8-27 beds) where upper-class students can live. Students interested in a programmatic theme or who share common organizational purposes can take advantage of the opportunity to live together in a group-style living arrangement.
Also, a number of newly renovated apartment-style units are available to upper-class students. Hiett Hall, Lawrence's newest residence, is reserved for upper-class students. It is a beautifully designed 183-bed hall built into the hillside overlooking the Fox River. Rooms are arranged in suite style (two or four students per suite), with bathrooms and common living space included in the suite.
Living on campus provides some of the most memorable moments of a student's college experience. Therefore, it is important to the residential mission that we provide an exciting environment for living and learning. It is the mission of our department to provide easy access to educational programs outside of the classroom, a wide array of leadership experiences, and a full calendar of social activities for students not only to participate in, but to initiate and develop on their own.
At Lawrence, we believe that residential living is the first step in making a life transition. We recognize the importance of allowing our students to be an active participant in their community and because of that, we offer them a variety of opportunities to make decisions regarding their living environment. Each living environment reflects the interests of the students who live there. We encourage students to become a member of a close-knit community and most importantly, to be challenged to experience and learn from others who are different from themselves.
This website is being developed to provide you with an understanding of living at Lawrence. We hope that you find this information helpful and encourage you to contact our staff for assistance or to answer any questions you may have regarding residential living at Lawrence University.
Our Residence Halls
At Lawrence, your residence hall will not only be your "home away from home," it also will provide you with the opportunity to meet new students from different areas of the United States and other countries. This diversity provides you with an exciting opportunity to expand your horizons. New ideas, intellectual exchange, interactions with differing cultures and new friends all make life in residence halls a great educational experience in itself, which is one of the reasons that Lawrence University is by design and policy a residential college.
We offer a number of housing options. Each residence hall is staffed with a Residence Hall Director whose responsibility is to oversee the operation of the hall and all programs connected with a specific hall. The Residence Hall Directors (RHDs) are assisted by Residence Life Advisors (RLAs), outstanding student leaders who have been selected to act as peer advisors and to facilitate the creation of a community through recreational, social and educational programming.
